Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Suite (arr. Knigge) distills the emotional power of his celebrated ballet, inspired by Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy, into a compact and vivid chamber setting, preserving its lyrical beauty, dramatic contrasts, and memorable themes that trace the story from youthful innocence to profound heartbreak. Complementing this, Borys Fedorov’s Amarcord, Childhood Memories offers a personal and nostalgic reflection on youth along the Volga River, presenting a series of vivid images represented by musical fragments and a bittersweet perspective of looking back on childhood. The program culminates with Cezar Franck’s monumental Sonata for Violin and Piano, heard here in a rich and expressive arrangement by violist Dana Zemtsov. Its sweeping arcs, radiant cyclic design, and soaring emotional span form a grand, glowing finale—music that embraces both intimacy and transcendence.
