A Festive Opening to the Season

Join us for a festive Opening Night celebrating the start of a new season at the Davidsbündler Music Academy. We invite you to raise a glass with us in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

This is also a benefit concert in support of the Academy and its young musical talents. General admission starts at €30, but we warmly invite you to pay what you wish and contribute more if you are able. Every additional contribution directly helps us support the young musicians of the Academy and create opportunities for the next generation of exceptional artists.

This program brings together four works that look both backward and forward, exploring the dialogue between tradition and modernity. Schnittke’s Suite in the Old Style playfully reimagines Baroque and Classical forms through a distinctly 20th-century voice, while Ysaÿe’s Sonata in C minor pushes the expressive and virtuosic possibilities of the solo violin to their limits. Britten’s Cello Sonata, with its striking contrasts of lyricism, rhythmic energy and introspection, reveals the composer’s uniquely personal language. At the heart of the second half is Rachmaninoff’s monumental Sonata for Cello and Piano, a work of sweeping melodies and emotional intensity in which the two instruments share an almost symphonic dialogue.
