Mikhail Zemtsov & Friends present an extraordinary new chapter in the viola repertoire through their ongoing recording project dedicated to the music of Johannes Brahms. Exploring the full expressive depth of Brahms’ chamber works in their viola adaptations, the ensemble brings together rich tonal colors, refined musicianship, and an intimate understanding of the composer’s distinctive style.

This release marks the presentation of the second CD in Mikhail Zemtsov’s ambitious recording project, featuring all of Brahms’ chamber music works with solo instrumental parts for which the composer himself created viola versions. The first CD, released in September 2025, included the Horn Trio, Op. 40, and the two Clarinet Sonatas, Op. 120.

The project was inspired by the anniversaries commemorating both Brahms’ death, 125 years in 2022, and his birth, 190 years in 2023. Through these recordings, the artists hope to offer a meaningful addition to the discography treasured by Brahms and viola enthusiasts alike, while inviting listeners to rediscover these masterpieces from a fresh and deeply expressive perspective.
