Cellissimo! is a real treat for all cello lovers and true celebration of this magnificent instrument. In the first half of the concert, David and Oleg will join forces with Anna Fedorova in some of the duo repertoire for cello and piano as well as two cellos. David himself was a student of Oleg at the Guildhall School in London, when he won his first position as principal cellist of the Philharmonia Orchestra at the age of 20. In the second half, young talents whom they will be working with over the course of the week will be joining David and Oleg in a selection of cello ensemble pieces, from cello quartets to cello octets.
Principal cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra and virtuoso soloist and chamber musician, David Cohen is among the most masterful cellists of today. As a soloist he has performed with the NHK Symphony, Philharmonia Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, l’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and many others. He is a professor at Trinity College London and at the National Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Mons in Belgium. Highlights of the 2024-2025 season include Davids’ appearance as a conductor with the PHION Orchestra in The Netherlands and his performance as a cellist of the Edward Elgar Cello Concerto at the Barbican Centre together with the London Symphony Orchestra and Antonio Pappano.
Winner of the All Soviet Union Cello Competition in 1989, Oleg Kogan has performed recitals and concerto engagements throughout the Soviet Union, Europe and Israel, with orchestras such as the Moscow Philharmonic, the State Symphony Orchestra of the USSR and the Geneva Chamber Orchestra. Originally from Kharkiv, Ukraine, Oleg makes his home in London and appears regularly at the Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Barbican. An active chamber musician, he founded the Rubinstein Piano Trio and is the Artistic Director of the Razumovsky Ensemble and Razumovsky Academy. A tutor at the Guildhall school, Oleg was formerly an Associate Professor at the Moscow Conservatoire and has given master classes in Russia, Poland, Switzerland and Israel.
